Anna Soubry has the perfect response to Piers Morgan

Anna Soubry had the perfect retort for Brexiteers on Good Morning Britain – to simply ask for their solution to the Irish border problem.

She was appearing on the breakfast television show alongside Vote Leave’s Gisela Stuart, who claimed that ‘you can find solutions’ to the issues surrounding Britain leaving the European Union.

Humouring the former Labour MP, Tory Remainer Anna Soubry, said ‘go on, what’s the solution?’

As Stuart went quiet, Soubry continued: ‘There isn’t a solution! The truth is, you can’t do Brexit. That’s the truth of it. You can’t do it!’

Unimpressed by Soubry’s assertions, television host Piers Morgan tried to pick up the baton in support of Brexit.

He asked: ‘How did we survive 45 years ago when we weren’t in the European Union then? If we can’t do Brexit? If we can’t go back to how we were only four decades ago, what is the matter with us?’

Trying to get a word in edgeways, the Conservative MP replied: ‘The point is that the Good Friday agreement relied on our membership on the European Union. Because it absolutely underpins it, the free movement of people.’

Morgan then began to continue his tirade half way through Soubry’s answer.

‘I’m challenging your statement! David Trimble, who we just heard won the Nobel Peace Prize, who I assume knows more than any of us about this, he says there’s no problem with the border.

‘Then what is the solution?’ the MP asked, but Piers was unable to give one.

‘He says there’s no problem, they already collect VAT along there, there is no problem.’

‘What is the solution? It’s a huge problem, because it’s not just the goods, even Theresa before the referendum said that if we left the European Union we would have a real problem with the free movement of people across the border.’

As Piers continued to maintain he was right, he was still unable to provide a solution.

Brexiteers have repeatedly struggled in interviews when asked for the details of their own plans. On the same programme Nigel Farage said that he had a plan for Brexit that would lead to a ‘simple’ trade deal, but said he wasn’t prepared to release the details.
