Here are 7 alternative ways to protest against Brexit

Fighting Brexit isn’t all about waving placards and attending marches, here are examples of those protesting Brexit in day-to-day life.

1. Covering up pro-Brexit newspapers with copies of The New European

Across the country unknown Remainers have been rearranging news stands to cover Europsceptic newspapers with copies of The New European.

We urge readers not to take part in this – however, if you do encounter so-called ‘Remainer revenge’ against the right-wing press in a supermarket near you, please send us a photo so that we can flag up any future acts of sabotage.

2. Flying the EU flag at large events

Remain campaigners claimed a publicity victory in 2017 when pictures on BBC television showed a sea of blue and gold stars at the traditionally patriotic event Last Night of the Proms. Nigel Farage accused concertgoers who waved them of being in denial about Brexit.

This year activists are to hand out 20,000 EU flags at this year’s event too.

The EU flag has become a symbol of the fight against Brexit with blue and yellow flags cropping up at a number of big public events.

3. Replacing the pro-Brexit beer mats at Wetherspoons

For those that haven’t boycotted your local Wetherspoons there are still ways to protest their pro-Brexit stance while drinking what remains of their stock now they have banned EU brands.

One way Remain activists have been protesting is by providing their own versions of their Brexit beer mats at the bar.

4. Renaming your drinks at coffee shops

Twitter user EU Flag Mafia refused to give their full name when asked to provide one in their local chain of Starbucks. Instead they referenced the anti-Brexit movement.

The result? Chuckles as the barista shouts it out in front of a busy queue of coffee drinkers.

5. Reconfiguring the name of your hotspot

Every little helps when it comes to protesting Brexit. Long gone are the days of standard wifi titles like ‘TalkTalk Router’ – now there are all sorts of creative titles to differentiate between the data connections available close by.

Some of those flagged up on social media recently include hotspots named ‘Fuck Brexit – European Forever’ and ‘Brexit is stupid and cruel’.

6. Handing out ‘Bollocks to Brexit’ stickers

Thousands of these stickers are being handed out at events every week as part of the grassroots protest against the UK leaving the European Union. Most recently Berkshire for Europe handed out 20,000 at this year’s Reading Festival.

7. Leaving your copy of The New European in public places

Sick of coffee shops only offering right-wing newspapers as reading material? Fed up of the limited choice between copies of the Daily Mail and the Express? One activist is leaving their finished copy of The New European in coffee shops to combat the choice of reading on offer.

Others have told us they are leaving their copies at the local library and even in the pub. Some have gone as far as redirecting copies to their Leave MPs.
