Brexiteer MP Andrew Bridgen has been locked in an escape room for a bizarre television segment.
The Brexiteer was put in the room with Remainer Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran and Labour MP Yasmin Qureshi, who backs a customs union plan for Brexit.
The aim was to try to put aside their differences to show ‘good will’ and unite the parliamentarians on Brexit in the allocated amount of time.
The Tory MP, however, initially appeared less than thrilled to be involved in the BBC segment for the Victoria Derbyshire show donning an RAF uniform.
While the feature appeared to start with MPs working together but, in true form, the MPs started to disagree the more ‘taxing’ the questions became.
Eventually, to disappointment from some viewers, the ERG Brexiteer made his way out.
Speaking after the activity, Moran said: ‘I think what I got out of that is it reminds us all that, behind all the rhetoric and the bluff, there are people actually trying to do their best in whatever way they see it.’
Bridgen said: ‘Without all three of us working together in that time, but the difference is [compared to the debate on Brexit] all three of us wanted to leave.’
Viewers watching the television feature had mixed opinions.
‘It’s called ‘going the full Captain Mainwaring”, said one.
‘Like most escape rooms, the best solution is not to have bothered in the first place’ said King Jobbie on Twitter.
‘Man alive, imagine the EU looking in on this.’ said another.
It follows a German comedy show using an escape room metaphor to demonstrate how difficult it has become for Brexiteers to agree how to leave the EU.
