Comedian Chris O’Dowd has predicted ‘a lot of British people’ will be heading to Ireland after the Brexit ‘mess’.
The Irish comedian and actor is best known for starring in Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd,
Speaking at the Oscar Wilde Awards he said Britons will travel to Ireland ‘with their tales between their legs’ when the UK leaves the European Union.
O’Dowd told the Press Association: ‘I think we’re going to have a lot more British people in the country, coming with their tales between their legs looking for passports.’
He added: ‘What a mess you have made of it.’
O’Dowd has been an outspoken critic of Brexit and Donald Trump’s leadership. He previously told the Guardian: ‘Increasingly I’m like, ‘Fuck the People. Fuck you, if you didn’t get that they were lying to you.’ It’s like a clown told me a story and I chose to believe it… It’s such a low ebb of human civilisation, a really dangerous time for Anglo-Irish relations. Boris Johnson wants a bridge to Ireland? What’s that going to solve?’
Officials described 2018 as its ‘busiest year yet’ for Irish passports as the UK headed towards the ‘looming disaster of Brexit’.
