Conservatives want to be the 'caring party'

Theresa May is planning to rebrand the Conservatives as the ‘caring party’ after internal polling showed they are seen as not caring enough.

Several national newspapers report today that backbench Conservative MPs have seen the plans, which aim to improve the party’s electoral fortunes after a disastrous election result in June.

The Tories will vow to ‘build a Britain fit for the future’ with emphasis on ‘getting the best Brexit deal for Britain’ and ‘tackling injustices’.

There will be a bigger focus on issues such as animal welfare and the environment, after private polling revealed the party is considered ‘uncaring’ on the issues.

Last week a story about Conservative MPs voting against including a clause on animal sentience in the EU withdrawal bill became one of the most shared political stories in 2017, forcing Michael Gove to issue a video denying the claims.

‘Underpinning all this is our commitment to protect our environment so we leave our planet in a better state than we found it, with cleaner air, stronger protections for animal welfare and greener spaces,’ the Guardian reports the document as stating.

It is also reported there will be a bigger effort to win younger people over – by helping to get them on the housing ladder, tackling the unethical practices of big businesses, and promoting ‘better, high paying jobs’.

The Conservatives view Jeremy Corbyn’s appeal with young and middle-aged voters as a big reason why Labour surged in the polls earlier this year.
