The debate on the customs union is a golden opportunity for MPs to discuss, sensibly, the impact quitting will have on Britain.
This should be viewed as a chance to convince wavering Tories to be brave when the vote really matters next month – it is time for members to realise sometimes they must put their country above their party.
The Lords gave the government a bloody nose last week by demanding amendments to the EU (Withdrawl) Bill. But in the end the Commons can ignore the other place. It will take MPs to stop Britain performing a spectacular act of self harm.
Leaving the customs union will almost certainly mean a return to a hard border in Ireland. Can any MP justify that?
It is time for our MPs to be brave.
