Remain campaigner Femi Oluwole had water and abuse hurled at him outside a Brexit rally in scenes that even hard Brexiteer Isabel Oakeshott couldn’t stomach.
In the video taken by a queue for a Brexit rally, the Our Future, Our Choice campaigner carries a table and a sign saying “A no deal Brexit would be a disaster for the UK – change my mind” in an apparent invitation to debate.
Numerous people queueing shouted: “Treacherous scum!” “Fucking traitor!” “Fuck off, you traitor!” before throwing water at him and poking a British flag at his face.
“Losers!” they shouted at Remain protestors over the road.
It was, according to Oluwole, “a near-constant stream of abuse from about 10% of them”.
Disappointing to see these ugly scenes outside what was a fantastic @brexitparty_uk rally last night. I'm sorry this happened to you. There's no place for vile language or throwing stuff at ppl who disagree with us. https://t.co/2ykiV3JNhP

None of others can be seen attempting to intervene, although two of the people who participated in the abuse instead congratulated each other with a handshake.
Oluwole tweeted the video, saying: “I don’t mind right-wing thugs chucking their drinks on me.
“I don’t mind them poking me in the face with a flagpole.
“I do mind that Nigel Farage is set to WIN the European elections on Thursday, by calling anyone who opposes a form of Brexit he said would never happen, ‘traitors’.”
Did I find the image of Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson covered in Milkshake funny? Absolutely.

Would those on the Right find the image of ME covered in Milkshake hilarious? I'd absolutely hope so.
But should we be crossing that line in today's political climate? Absolutely not. https://t.co/TrkxhHTQt6
Hardline Brexiteer commentator Isabel Oakeshott retweeted Oluwole, saying the scenes were “disappointing” even though the rally was “fantastic”.
“I’m sorry this happened to you,” she continued. “There’s no place for vile language or throwing stuff at ppl who disagree with us.”
Oluwole has been vocally opposed to “milkshaking” of any politician in several previous tweets.
Leave.EU has sent mixed messages, condemning a milkshake thrown over Nigel Farage two days after the organisation tweeted a comic video of figures representing Farage, Widdecombe and party spokesperson Richard Tice showering political opponents in beer.
