Labour Leaver Graham Stringer has launched a bizarre attack on Remainers at conference.
Appearing at a Labour Leave fringe event the prominent Eurosceptic MP claimed his party’s fudge over a second vote had killed the People’s Vote campaign.
Speaking alongside other Labour Brexiteers he claimed those who want a new vote had ‘contempt for democracy’ and many people who backed remaining in the European Union in 2016 now simply wanted the government to ‘get on with it’.
He added that Remainers had ‘denigrated’ those who voted leave since the referendum.
Speaking about former leader Ed Miliband’s decision not to offer a Brexit referendum in his unsuccessful 2015 manifesto he said: ‘I can still hear Ed saying to me ‘I do not want to spend my first five years in Number 10, Downing Street, dealing with a referendum’. Well we are spending a lot of time in opposition dealing with a referendum.’
