Henry Bolton has admitted he lied about splitting up with Jo Marney after her racist message scandal.
When asked by Nick Ferrari on LBC ‘were you ever not together?’ a laughing Bolton said: ‘No. I think I was playing on words a little bit. I said I’d put personal issues in a box to be dealt with later.’
Asked how she felt about the romance being switched off and on Marney, 25, said: ‘Well it wasn’t – it was to the general public but not to me. I was fine with it.’
Bolton’s leadership came unstuck after messages sent by Marney were revealed where she said Megan Markle would ‘taint’ the royal family. But even after a vote of no confidence in the leader from UKIP he battled on. He was finally deposed at a specially convened meeting last weekend.
Marney added: ‘It is quite difficult to sit at home and watch your boyfriend on tele saying he is not your boyfriend.’
But asked whether she could trust him she said: ‘Maybe the public shouldn’t trust him – but I do.’
