‘David Cameron is our best hope’ claims ex-adviser

Steve Hilton believes that Cameron – considered responsible for the Brexit decision by many in the country – would be the best person to take over the running of the country.

According to Cameron’s former director of strategy he is ‘the best hope for Britain’ to deal with the ‘national emergency’ that is Brexit.

He wrote in the Sunday Times: ‘What Britain needs above all is a leader with the confidence and the character to command respect and bring people together from all sides of this bruising two-year meltdown.

‘If there is a Conservative Party leadership election, no doubt many able MPs will throw their hat in the ring.

‘But there’s one name that should also be on the list: David Cameron’.

Hilton said that Brexiteers like Boris Johnson and Michael Gove had an ‘abdication of responsibility’ and said that the civil service were ‘comically incapable’.

He also claimed that Theresa May’s plan for Brexit was ‘doomed to failure’ despite having taken two years to complete.

‘The former prime minister reportedly remarked in the early hours of June 24, after the Brexit vote had gone against him, ‘Why should I do all the hard s***?’

‘I think we know the answer to that now. And, considering where we are now David Cameron’s return to No 10 could in fact be the best hope for Britain.’

Earlier this year Cameron claimed that Brexit has ‘turned out less badly than we first thought’ adding that ‘it’s still going to be difficult.’

One Twitter user joked: ‘I’m not sure what would be worse: If David Cameron encouraged Steve Hilton to write this, or if he didn’t.’

It has also been reported that the BBC is working on a multi-part documentary about the former prime minister to coincide with the release of his memoirs.

The broadcaster has signed up Denys Blakeway to lead the series, who has interviewed Tony Blair, Sir John Major, and the late Baroness Thatcher.
