Theresa May considers another vote on her Brexit deal to try to stop EU elections

Theresa May is running out of time to find a way to break the Brexit impasse and stop the Tories facing huge defeats in the European elections.

Reports suggest that Theresa May is hoping to bring her withdrawal bill to the House of Commons in the next week, even though talks with Labour continue.

However, it is unlikely that Theresa May would do so without assurances from Jeremy Corbyn that they would allow the bill to pass.

A Downing Street source told the Mirror: ‘If we know they are going to shut it down immediately then we’d think twice – but then also we’re running out of time.’

The prime minister must pass the withdrawal agreement within three weeks or the UK will have to face European elections.

A spokesman for Theresa May added: ‘Every day that Parliament doesn’t ratify the EU withdrawal agreement, the harder it is to avoid the European elections.’
