Pro-EU activists dispute claim Tory MP was ‘rounded on’ at People’s Vote march

The encounter took place as pro-Brexit Andrew Rosindell – who was not on the march – was heading to his office as the procession passed along Whitehall.

He tweeted to fellow Tory MP Anna Soubry, who was among the marchers, that her ‘friends’ had been responsible for ‘shameful behaviour and vandalism’.

He wrote: ‘The shameful behaviour and vandalism of the #paradeoflosers in London showed these people up for the unpatriotic, undemocratic bullies they are – shouting obscenities and rounding on me like a mob as I attempted to enter my office, yet @Anna_Soubry calls them her ‘friends’!’

The message was accompanied by an image of Soubry addressing the crowd, a picture of protestors marching peacefully along Whitehall and others placing stickers on the door of the Cabinet Office.

They have released photographs, which they say shows the MP misrepresented the incident in order to discredit the march.

The pictures show the suited MP for Romford, who is holding a shopping bag from a Harry Potter gift shop, being followed by a Boris Johnson lookalike holding up a sign of prominent Brexiteers Michael Gove, David Davis and Liam Fox.

MORE: ‘You’ve just made the case for a People’s Vote’ – Farage left stumped by Lord AdonisThe group have even written a letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards Kathryn Stone, who is responsible for regulating MP’s conduct, claiming Rosindell has broken a code requiring parliamentarians to show ‘respect and professionalism’ and ‘understanding of others’ perspectives’.

The letter says the photos show that when talking with the Boris Johnson impersonator, Rosindell is ‘relaxed’ and ‘there is no mob’. It goes on: ‘The Boris Johnson impersonator wanted to get a picture with Mr Rosindell and so approached him talking about Brexit, words were exchanged between them, mostly out of earshot. The notion he was rounded upon by a mob is a fabrication’.
