Restaurant chains Zizzi and ASK are switching from Italian to Welsh versions of cheese as it makes preparations for Brexit.
Azzurri, the owner of both chains, took the decision as fears grow that a hard Brexit will disrupt food supply into the UK.
It also said that air miles were a consideration.
Kathryn Turner, director of food development at Zizzi, said that the new product passed a blind tasting test by senior Azzurri staff.
‘It has better stretch, a better flavour profile, it’s much creamier, it has a lot better quality product,’ Turner told the Press Association’s city reporter Alys Key.
The new cheese has been tested at ASK restaurants and will be introduced to Zizzi in 2019.
The revelations followed the news that government officials are planning to tell Brits that they made need to make changes to their diet ahead of Brexit.
Azzurri is just one of many businesses making preparations for a chaotic Brexit.
Swedish cider maker Kopparberg is looking into moving some production to the UK.
As the threat of no deal Brexit appears to draw closer, Tesco and Lidl have also announced plans to stockpile non-perishable foods.
